The LJ Interests meme.

1. beekeeping:
   I've been fascinated by this since I was little, and one of my friend's grandfathers kept bees locally, and later my dad worked a bit in a church honey processing operation, taking me in to see the equipment and the building and the honey. I love the smell of bees and beekeeping, smoke and honey and wax and pine resin; and the sound of a happy hive, humming on a summer's day, as the foragers zoom back and forth. I know a beekeeper now, and am fascinated to watch him examine his hive, pointing out brood comb and the tiny baby bee-larva, and look forward to helping with extraction. Bees are amazing little critters. I'd like to keep a hive, someday.


2. botany:
   I likes me the plants. I likes me the study of the plants. Mmm, plants. I also likes me to eat the plants, but only the tasty ones.


3. folklore:
   The stories people tell, of hopes and dreams and the past. Folklore and history sort of blend together, edges indistinct and potentially unimportant. Reading between the lines is almost as fun as reading the lines themselves. Blending into mythology, you get the beginning stories, and the god stories, and the monster and beast and nymph stories. In some of them, men's hopes and dreams only thinly disguised. In others, the greatest sci-fi/fantasy novels you will ever read.


4. hiking:
   Long walks in the woods. Evergreens and spongy needle floors, rapid clear cold water. Great stones, tiny moss, quiet. Bird's call, deer's track, scrabble of rodent claws in the underbrush/on a branch. Need I say more?


5. houseplants:
   Plant pets. Lower maintenance than animal pets. They flower, they grow, they make my living room feel nice.


6. meaningful discussion:
   If you have nothing to say, why are you still talking?


7. origami:
   A magic trick in which a piece of paper is transformed into a crane. Many variants exist, resulting in a wide range of paper-based creatures and occasionally whole paper ecosystems may develop.


8. sunlight:
   Warmth, light, rainbows, photosynthesis. Mmmm, sunlight.


9. the better part:
   In all things strive to do right, choosing always the better part.


10. unilateral pre-emptive metrification:
