real snow isn't nearly so tedious
Finally got around to my annual tatted snowflake starching event.
Now I remember why I don't do this more often. Pinning out is very time consuming, and leaves a sore little dent in my fingertip.
I think I need more pins--I had about three dozen flakes to work on (plus another dozen or so that didn't get starched this round because they didn't fit in the pot), and had to wait for the first half to dry before I could pin out the second half. A better foam pinning board might also be a good investment.
On the other hand, it's amazing how much better most of them look after being starched. The funny curves are gone, the bowling flakes are flat, the six pointed stars are clear and crisp, negative space solid as the tatting surrounding it. And there's a sense of satisfaction looking at the pile of finished snowflakes, ready for hanging or gifts.
Need to figure out a way to take pictures, as my scanner access moved out.
