blah blah brownies!, blah blah blah plants!, blah blah

Not a lot exciting going on.

I made brownies the other day and wanted to dress them up a bit. Vaguely recalled reading a recipe that involved marbling either cake or brownies with fruit preserves, and thought I'd give it a go. Added some dollops of homemade raspberry jam (slightly tart, so it still tastes rather like raspberries) and swirled it in with a few zigzags of the spoon. Came out very well and very tasty. Mmmmm, tasty raspberry brownies.

Went to the flower and garden show with my family. Woot, plants! I was going to replace a little orchid of mine which had a grad-school related fatality accident, but couldn't find any for sale. :( I consoled myself with a couple of other orchids: a little purple oncidium alliance in spike, and a baby phalaenopsis with the cool yellow-pink veining in the petals.

I've also started taking flowering orchids into work with me. Normally I would put flowering plants on the dining-room table so that I could enjoy them at eye level. However, there are a couple problems with this at the moment: 1) I am at work much of the day; and 2) roommate's cat believes that plants exist to be chewed on, and things on the table exist to be exciting gravity-powered cat toys. In the interests of promoting roommate harmony by not being compelled to convert the cat into a rug, I'm taking them to work. The main drawback is that the flowers don't last as long in the dry office air. On the plus side, my co-workers seem to enjoy them as well.
